Unrest in Iraq: Demand justice for those suffering

Unrest in Iraq: Demand justice for those suffering

Dear Tracy,

These words haunt me.

"We have nothing. We can't leave. ISIS will catch us and kill us if we do. For god's sake, please help us."

This was the desperate plea of a man trapped in northern Iraq.

Amnesty investigator Donatella Rovera has traveled to Iraq - often into conflict areas where journalists fear to go - to speak directly to the people suffering the Islamic State (IS) onslaught.

She is telling their stories to help secure aid for people like this man and his village.

She is shedding light on ethnic cleansing by the Islamic State, revenge attacks on civilians by other Iraqi militias, and indiscriminate shelling of residential communities by the Iraqi military. Amnesty's documentation of these and other violations underpins its concerns that, without firm rules in place, it would be reckless for the US or others to provide weapons to any party to the conflict.

But Donatella and Amnesty's other crisis investigators need your help. Donate now and your gift will be matched as part of Amnesty's September Membership Drive.

As the desperate words show, Amnesty's mission is urgent. The growing unrest in the Middle East has put Amnesty's global membership on high alert, and to the test.

Amnesty brings these stories of suffering and injustice to light, and unites us in demanding justice. It has answered this call for more than 50 years, and received a Nobel Peace prize for its life-saving work.

Don't delete this email without first making a commitment of support to champion human rights. Your contribution matters.

Donate now and your contribution will go twice as far, but only until September 30. Amnesty hopes to secure 10,000 new and returning members to help fuel their efforts. Please be one of them.

Action is the antidote to human rights abuses. If we become indifferent to human suffering, we let war criminals and other oppressors get away with it.

That's why Amnesty is counting on you - and thousands like you - to reaffirm your commitment to human rights. Be part of this movement. Donate today.
