#Write4Rights: What we've accomplished so far

Get Involved
Thank You

John Legend wrote with you and over 2 million others.
Amnesty activists — including award-winning musician John Legend — spoke out for human rights during #Write4Rights.

We're still counting all of the actions taken by activists like you, but we are already over 2 million!

Dear Tracy,

24-hour letter-writing marathons!

Letters written and events hosted in countries around the world!

Over 2 million actions — and counting — taken to help speak out against injustice!

Your support is the backbone of our efforts mobilizing people around the world to take action and speak out against human rights abuses.

So far, as a result of the 2014 #Write4Rights campaign and the courageous actions of local activists, the Indian government has agreed to increase a multi-million dollar compensation claim against Union Carbide over the catastrophic 1984 gas leak from the company's Bhopal pesticide plant.

We also have garnered the support of more than half of the members of Chicago's City Council for passage of the Reparations Ordinance for Chicago Police Torture Survivors. If passed, this historic ordinance would help ensure a measure of justice to the more than 100 survivors of torture carried out by Chicago police under Commander Jon Burge from 1972 to 1991.

Martin Luther King said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." I agree wholeheartedly and can't wait to report more on the progress that Write for Rights will make for individuals who have been tortured, unjustly imprisoned and unfairly treated.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to human rights.

Sincerely,

Zeke Johnson
